During WWll, Alex worked for Poster Products in Chicago and produced many war related illustrations for both war bonds and for advertising. The next 15 frames are a sampling.

During and after WWII, Alex illustrated many covers of "The Bagpipe," a publication for the employees of "Encyclopaedia Britannica."

Alex F. Yaworski painting that graced the cover of the July 13, 1952 Chicago Sunday Tribune Grafic Magazine. Alex's paintings were covers for many Trib Sunday Magazine covers over the years. This was an early one.

AFY did many paintings that were used on American Artists Group greeting cards.
Painting by AFY of the "Calder Stabile" in downtown Chicago. This was used on an American Artists Group holiday card.

This card was sent out to promote AFY's Solo Exhibition at Tower Park Gallery.
Catalog Cover of "Two Hundred Years of Watercolor Painting in America," Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1966 - 1967 AFY's painting, "Dockside Impression" was shown in exhibition. Classic American watercolorists such as Winslow Homer (cover) and John Singer Sargent were in the exhibition. 57 living American watercolorists were also included. AFY listed on page 46 under Andrew Wyeth.

AFY was on the Jury of Selection for the 97th Annual American Watercolor Exhibition at the National Academy Galleries, NY in 1964.

AFY designed and illustrated the Sears Roebuck Christmas "Wishbook" Covers from the mid 1940s until the mid 1950s. Since he was not supposed to sign his Sears illustrations, he hid his initials in some of them. The green circles show the locations of his "AY" on these 2 covers.

The character, "Little Oscar," was established in the 1930s with a live actor/model. In the 1950s, Alex drew him as a cartoon character.

Inside view of AFY Christmas Card for Butler Brothers, the company that owned Ben Franklin Stores - The front of the card showed Santa's face through the oval opening that you see on the left.
For many years, Alex did many illustrations for Ben Franklin Stores, usually of the character, Ben Franklin. With especially pen and ink drawings, he would draw multiples on 1 piece of illustration board. Then he would order a "stat" and "cut and paste" the pictures into the correct positions in their ads or collateral. This was many years before computers and the cutting and pasting was literal.

This and the next three frames are AFY illustrations done for Quaker Oats, followed by a printed sample.
This AFY workshop at the Tweed Art Museum, Duluth, MN in 1982 was in conjunction with his Solo Exhibition.
On day one of the workshop, it rained out so the day was started with a watercolor painting demonstration by AFY. The students then painted from projected slides. The following two days were beautiful and AFY and students painted outside on location.

Alex was very active with the Artists Guild of Chicago for many years (President twice) and drew the monthly cartoon of an artists' model for their "Artists Guild of Chicago Bulletin." The model's name was "Guilda."
"Awake! for Morning in the Bowl of Night Has flung the Stone that puts the Stars to Flight, And Lo! the Hunter of the East has caught The Sultan's Turret in a Noose of Light."
In 1987, AFY took a trip to the Soviet Union with his son to visit his mother's hometown, Kharkiv and his birthplace, Odessa. He did this sketch from his hotel window in Odessa.

AFY in his Chicago living room not long before his move to Kansas City, MO in 1991. He designed the easel in the 1940s. See next frame.
